Culture Fit – Why is it Important?

Getting the culture fit right in your team is one of the most important things you can do! I’m not talking M/F, age, race and the like – it’s about making sure someone is going to be happy and a good team fit!

Let’s use me as an example. I’m early 50’s but young at heart, I love a bit of banter in the office, I chatter away whilst I work but I work hard, really hard. I have the radio playing, I need noise around me, a buzz, it has to be fast paced – this is what brings out the best in me.

Now, imagine placing me in a workplace where everyone is serious, head down tail up, you can hear a pin drop, they don’t like chatter in the office or if someone is loud on the phone.

Even if on paper I am perfect for the role, I can tell you, I wouldn’t last a week let alone 3 months or more!

Getting the cultural fit right isn’t about being discriminatory, it’s about matchmaking, chemistry …… when you get this right, magic happens! A team who enjoy working together, are passionate about their brand, ultimately the end result is a successful business! Get it wrong and you get high turnover and we all know how that negatively impacts a business.
